Sports Illustrated/McDonalds- Jack Sock

We recently did few shoots for Sports Illustrated for an advertorial for McDonalds.     This first one was with pro tennis player Jack Sock.     The assignment was to take him out to a location with a “Florida feel”  and capture him in various action poses while dressed in his street clothes.     There was an accompanying interview article with Jack about his background and his quick rise to fame within the pro tennis world.

Jack was really great to work with.    He gave us his all despite it being quite hot on the beach and having to jump many times in jeans and a button down shirt.    In the end  it made for a nice shot.    This is one of my favorites from the shoot.   The magazine went with a slightly different angle where he was performing his signature serve.    This one feels a bit more dynamic to me.

Nascar for Dodge

We had the opportunity a while back to shoot some Nascar racing at the Homestead Motor Speedway for the Dodge Race Team.    If you’ve never had the opportunity to get right down in the hot zone on Pit Row,  I highly recommend it.    Super cool to see these crews at work.    They are a well oiled machine.   Everyone has their specific job and when that car rolls in, they jump to it and zip zap,  the car is jacked up, all 4 tires changed,  fully fueled,  windshield cleaned and water for the driver… all in a matter of seconds.     While he is out screaming around the track at over 200 mph,  the crew is hard at work, scraping the tires to analyze the rubber to see what the track condition is doing to the wheels and a team of guys watches on screens,  monitoring the car and keeping in constant contact with the driver.    It is awesome!

Also, there is nothing like Nascar Fans…  these folks are die hard,  hard core fans.   Everyone has their favorite and there is no telling them otherwise.   In their mind, that person is a king Sh*t racing legend and is GOING to win this time!   Nothing like a hot afternoon,  cold beer and fast cars.

Aqua Zumba

Just wrapped a quick second shoot for Zumba ZLife Magazine shooting their Aqua Zumba fitness in the pool.    If you haven’t tried it, you should, it’s a heck of a workout.    It was a fun shoot.   We started out above water with this shot (below) and when the rain moved in on us we weather proofed our strobes and went under water and did some fun shots below the surface.

Update:    While we were shooting this assignment the client had a video guy doing a little behind the scenes shoot.   Check it out here.

Summer again….

Well it’s nearing the end of summer again and once again we found ourselves in Maine.    The place where we go every year for a few months to get away from the heat of Florida…  It’s an amazing place where time seems to stand still and memories last a lifetime.   Last year was the first year that my son Jordan first started to “get it” and really start to be able to appreciate all the wonderful things about my home town of Belgrade Lakes.    This year was even better than last.    Countless hours spent on the lakes, hiking on mountain trails,  boating, swimming, camping, fishing and catching everything from crabs to frogs to mud puppies.    Here are just a few photos of Jordan doing the things that all little boys love to do in Maine on their summer breaks.

Zumba ZLife Magazine

And now for something completely different….    The other day we had the opportunity to do something that is a bit different for me.     We shot a fashion spread for Zumba’s  ZLife Magazine.     It has been a long time since I have shot fashion and I found the change to be refreshing and a lot of fun.    Here are a few images from the shoot.

L.E.D. Snowboarding Video

The spray of the snow, the snaking curves, the pure white backdrop … watching a pro snowboarder glide effortlessly down a mountain pass can be mesmerizing. But when you add a dark night, L.E.D. lighting and a fashion photographer, it can be art.

Surrealist pop culture photographer and filmmaker Jacob Sutton joined pro snowboarder William Hughes on the slopes of Tignes in the Rhone-Alpes region of southeast France with a Red Epic camera, an L.E.D.-bejeweled snowsuit and, according to Nowness.com, plenty of vin rouge to keep Hughes warm during those three icy nights. The result is something so stunning, it makes you wonder why the Winter X Games are ever held in daylight.

Sutton wanted Hughes to be the only light source in the short film. Although the lights are wrapped around his suit, when Hughes tears into the snow, he’s seems to be glowing from within. Perhaps that’s just the magic of good French wine.

Family Party

Here’s another series of images from the Sunrise Senior Living shoot.    This one was a series from a multigenerational get together.    The elder woman featured in the center is one of the residents and is a spry 96 years old who seems to have the energy and stamina of someone 20 years younger.    She and her gracious family were very generous with time volunteering to be in this shot and later dancing up a storm in a party by the pool! Many thanks to them and my great crew.

Card Sharks.

We just wrapped a two day shoot for Sunrise Senior Living for their advertising and collateral materials.     We had the opportunity to shoot a large group of really great seniors who seem to be loving life in their golden years.      Here are just a few images from the card playing shots we did.    These folks love their card games.    It is serious business for some.    Some never go a day without playing.

Splash! – A Very Wet Look Behind the Scenes.

Here is a very wet look behind the scenes of a recent book shoot.

“Ok Mike,   Just walk out on that rock and look out over the water.  Try to look natural when the waves come up and splash.”        SPLASH!!!!     “That was perfect!    Mike?   Umm… Mike?”     ;-p

Seriously though,   Mike was not harmed in these photos,   While it may look like he was wiped out,   he actually braved the waves relatively unscathed.

We will  be posting the final images soon!  Stay tuned…

Lenovo- For those who Do.

Here are the ads we did recently with Saatchi & Saatchi for Lenovo.   It was a really great shoot complete with a guy flying in a water propelled jet pack.    Who doesn’t love jet packs!   We shot 2 days alongside the TV production and 1 day specifically for stills. Special thanks to Hillary & Billy for hiring us and also to my great crew who worked long hours alongside the TV crew for 2 days in the heat!
